Commercial growers looking to hit it big with kelp
Jamie Bassett, Carl Douglas, and Richard Curtiss, all Chatham fishermen, are working together to open a large kelp farm off Harding Beach in Chatham. The trio, whose company is called Chatham Kelp LLC, have won approval from local boards and now are applying for permits with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Division of Marine Fisheries to have three sites in Nantucket Sound where they would have as many as 350 lines of kelp.
